I’ll have to look up a dictionary to find out how exactly the
word “home” is defined. Is your home where you come from, where you live, where
your heart is? Whichever it is for four years we’ve called Melbourne home never
quite sure if it was or not. At this stage, we’re all packed up and ready to
go, time to say goodbye to a fantastic city. Great memories, great people,
great experiences.
Since we’ve been here it’s moved up to number one in the
world’s most livable city poll, well deserved- not saying we had any influence
on it but if it drops down next year then it’s valid to at least ask the
question!
It’s now a factually correct statement to say we are
homeless and jobless. Our parents must be so proud! Is this the life that Aoife
signed up for when she married me? Emm, yes most definitely!
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks. They say moving house is
one of the most stressful things you can do, I wholeheartedly agree. Moving
your house into nine boxes to be shipped to Ireland (thanks Noelle &
Jimmy!) while selling or disposing of everything else is a very stressful
exercise. In Australia, all accommodation is unfurnished so over four years
we’ve gathered a huge amount of stuff. So much to do and all while finishing up
work and planning a round the world trip as well- yikes, at least we weren’t
planning a wedding at the same time too- silver linings!
As our furniture and goods were sold off, we did have the perk that we could avail of accommodation in one of the hotels I work for- the five star Olsen hotel was a suitable segway between 3 Moore Street in South Yarra and the campsites, hostels of Western Australia.

In the airport, ready for takeoff- let the games begin!
